A good but cool morning watching the busy nesting activities at the GBH Rookery on Leslie, its hard to get a good count with all the activity, but easily 2 dozen nesting Great Blue Herons as estimated by myself and another fellow birder who I spent an enjoyable morning with. Down on Major Mackenzie and Leslie, 2 Turkey Vultures, 1 American Kestrel and 1 Female Red-Tail Hawk. The American Kestrel, can usually be seen on the wires south side of Major Mac between Leslie and 404 south ramp. It has also been seen on the East side of Leslie North of Major Mac, however with all the construction, these days are numbered and sightings are less frequent.
Interesting note, at 10:30am a lone Turkey Vulture landed on a roof top Monaco and Redstone, this had many folks out for walks stopping in their footsteps wondering what had just landed. At 12:00 there were 3 Turkey Vultures circling Head Waters Park, very low. Normally they are high in the jet streams this time of year, I walked out to the park to see if there was "food" but of course they were no where to be seen. Looks like Spring is coming to a stand still for the next 4 days. Look forward to the coming migrant invasion of Head Waters the month of April. GBH Rookery is located Leslie Street, just north of Elgin Mills at the York Center (under construction). Good viewing from the parking lot. Monaco/Redstone and Headwaters Park are located on Redstone Rd South of Elgin Mills, East of Bayview and West of Yonge Street in Richmond Hill.
