A Black Vulture was observed twice late this afternoon over Front Road near Turkey Point in Norfolk County. The bird was first spotted by Kevin Kavanagh at 5:15pm flying eastward over 1634 Front Road with a flock of about one dozen Turkey Vultures and a single sub-adult Bald Eagle. I re-found the bird about 15 minutes later, approximately 2 km east along Front Road directly over the Ministry of Natural Resources works yard and the old (unused) hatchery. This is about 250m west of the corner of Front Road and Turkey Point Road. When re-found it was still circling with the flock of Turkey Vultures, gradually moving eastward, and roughly paralleling the Lake Erie shoreline and Front Road.
To reach the Turkey Point area from the north, follow Hwy 24 south through Simcoe. Stay on Hwy 24 as it curves to the west and watch for signs to Turkey Point. Travel south on the Turkey Point Road (Regional Road 10) for several kilometres. The intersection of Front Road and Turkey Point Road is approximately 250m south of the main entrance to the Turkey Point Provincial Park campground. The vulture appeared to be heading farther east along Front Road when last seen.
