I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather. A handful of redpolls are "toughing it out" at the Hilda Road feeders; this afternoon there were about seven, with two HOARY REDPOLLS and a "rostrata" or "greater" common redpoll in the mix. RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, numbering at least fifteen or more, swarmed the tree near the feeders, all calling at once creating quite a racket. In the midst of the red-wings were three BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, all males, which I think are the first for the year. A single AM. TREE SPARROW was still stalking on the ground, and a lone PINE SISKIN also made an appearance. Three COMMON GRACKLES flew by the feeders, but did not stick around.
Good birding! Pat DIRECTIONS: From Carling Avenue, continue west to Rifle Road, turning right. Follow Rifle to Lois, turning right. The feeders are at the top of the hill on the first right (Hilda Road). _________________________________________________________________ Chat with the whole group, and bring everyone together. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9650735_______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
