Hello all, Today along Greenland Road west of Ottawa there were several Great Gray Owls to be seen. Two could be clearly seen from the roadside but this was not good enough for the owl baiters and their acolytes who positioned themselves in the field and lured the owl away from the road and the birders who had been viewing it there.
That this owl has been here for quite a while surviving without the "help" of these photographers, and I use the term photographers loosely, seems not to matter to these people as long as they get their action photographs. That they ruin the enjoyment of the many birders and respectable photographers who have been enjoying these owls from the roadside (and have been doing so for quite a while now) will likely not matter to them either. It was a shame (but not a surprise) to also see (and clearly photograph) a regular OTTawa contributor to Ontbirds joining in the game. I will preserve his anonymity even though he uses a pseudonym for his Ontbird posts. Hmm, I wonder if that explains his lack of reports and links to his photos lately. Wouldn't want to draw attention after all. Directions to Greenland Road from Ottawa, take March Road north out of Kanata and turn right on the Dunrobin Road. Take Dunrobin Road until Thomas Dolan Parkway. Turn right on Thomas Dolan and continue to Greenland on your left, 5th Line on your right. Drive north on Greenland.
