Good evening and Happy New Year

Today Ian Cannell and I did some birding around Orillia and on a beautiful
winters day we started off the New Year with a small bang.

Some of the birds we found were the oft reported ( by Bob Bowles ) Hawk Owl on
Monck Road a flat hair west of Sideroad 20 ( northeast of Orillia ). This bird
was right beside the road and in fact we drove under it as it appeared to
ignore us.

From Monck Road we headed for the roads just Northwest of Orillia and along
these roads ( Bounded by Thorburn / Cambrian Rds, Burnside Rd, Fairgrounds Rd
and Hwy 12 ) we came up with 2 dark phase Rough-legged Hawks, Ruffed Grouse, 43
Turkeys, 2 N. Shrikes, Common Raven, 26 Bohemian Waxwings, 100 Snow Buntings, 1
female Pine Grosbeak, 11 Common Redpolls and many A. Crows, Blk-capped
Chickadees and A. Goldfinches and some more usual birds to be expected in the
area.
