Hello All,
A rather chilly day, but some great bird out there if you look for them. I
flushed a late SWAMP SPARROW from the marsh boardwalk, near the observation
tower. Winter listers might want to take note of this one if it decides to
stay. Over the marsh I had a flock of 56 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, as well as
smaller flocks of 5-10 in many places around the park.

The action however, was in the extensive berry bushes past the cottonwood
plantation. You can reach there quickly by following the trail immediately
to the right past the toll booth, which will lead you to an opening, turn
left through a large field of goldenrod and you will reach the center of the
action. Huge numbers of ROBINS & HOUSE FINCHES were present. A good place to
look for Varied Thrush amongst the flocks.

The star, however, was an extraordinarily tame NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD. You
photographers out there will love this one, he perches in the open all the
time and allows close approach. He found me before I found him!
