For the 3rd consecutive day we had a hanging haze on Wednesday, Nov.5 morning
at the Cranberry Marsh RW. Again I thank Geoff Carpentier and a great team of
observers for monitoring the hawk watch in spite of weather conditions not
amenable to hawks migrating--indeed, we observed only 1 raptor--a N.Harrier.
42 non-raptors were recorded, along with 1 MONARCH BUTTERFLY, several CLOUDED
SULPHURS AND ORANGE SULPHURS. In addition AUTUMN MEADOWHAWKS (red dragonflies)
were seen.
Highlight non-raptors--WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were noted several times--incl.
a group of 27; 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, several PINE SISKINS, 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD; 1
MARSH WREN, PURPLE FINCH; several CEDAR WAXWINGS. Among the ducks--n.pintail,
n.shoveler, green-winged teal, mallard, black duck, GOLDENEYE, LESSER SCAUP,
bufflehead.
