Highlights of reports received October 23 through October 30 from the Niagara Frontier Region include WHITE-EYED VIREO, YELLOW PALM WARBLER, SABINE'S GULL, RED PHALAROPE and ROUGH-
 LEGGED HAWKS.

October 24 and 28, an immature WHITE-EYED VIREO was found in a yard in the Niagara County Town of Wilson. This the third recent record of WHITE-EYED VIREO late in the fall.

Another species beginning to show a pattern of late October occurrence - a very rare YELLOW PALM WARBLER at Amherst State Park on October 25, with 25 YELLOW-R. WARBLERS and 3 FOX SPARROWS. On the 24th, OSPREY still at Amherst State Park.

October 27 through at least the 29th, a juvenile SABINE'S GULL provided closeup views on the Niagara River at Squaw Island, off Niagara Street in Buffalo. This rare, regular visitors has been feeding close to the walls at two locations on the island - Broderick Park at Ferry or Rich Road, and Squaw Island Park at the north end of the island.

A RED PHALAROPE was also found at Squaw Island on the 28th and 29th, along the Bird Island Pier under the Peace Bridge. Also at the Peace Bridge, PEREGRINE FALCON for several days.

The BOS field trip to the Lake Ontario Plains of Porter and Wilson on the 25th reported 64 species, including the season's first two ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS. Excellent loon migration was observed on the field trip - 1500 COMMON LOONS and 40 RED-THROATED LOONS, plus 16 RED-NECKED GREBES. Also numbers of SNOW BUNTINGS and AMERICAN PIPITS in the plains. October 26 on Lake Ontario, a PARASITIC JAEGER, passing the Town of Wilson.

October 24, the highest count of EASTERN MEADOWLARKS in many years - 28 MEADOWLARKS on Lewis Road in the Chautauqua County Town of Cherry Creek. Elsewhere in Chautauqua County this week, 25 BONAPARTE'S GULLS at Dunkirk Harbor and 17 at Barcelona Harbor. On the Silver Creek upper Reservoir in Hanover, 3 SNOW GEESE and GREATER YELLOWLEGS.

Other reports this week - at the Countryside Gravel Ponds on Route 62 in Cattaraugus County, 137 RUDDY DUCKS, 36 COMMON MERGANSERS, 3 RED-BR. MERGANSERS and 9 PIED-BILLED GREBES. On Grand Island, 150 COMMON GRACKLES at a feeder. Two PURPLE FINCHES on Woodbridge Avenue in Buffalo. And GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET, RUBY-CR. KINGLET and HERMIT THRUSH at several locations.
