Ontbirders,

Over the past two days, I have recorded WW Crossbills at five separate
Oxford County locations. Flocks have ranged from 16 to 80 birds. Considering
that
this species has been found almost everywhere that I have looked, it seems
apparent that this is a major incursion, involving a great many birds. I would
expect to see more reports of this species, in the south-west at least, over
the next few days.

It may be brief and torrential, though, as all of the flocks I have seen
have been racing westward, usually without pause. The local spruce-cone crop is

good, although I would still expect most of these birds to be gone long before
any Christmas counts take place, as seems typical of finches of late.
