With the dramatic change in wind direction a lot has changed in Cobourg
harbour today, Tuesday, Oct.28. The Snowy Owl is out of the wind on the
south side of the breakwater where the concrete joins the outer rocks, with
just its head showing from time to time. Neither the Purple Sandpiper nor
the Red Phalarope could be found this morning - in fact they probably left
about 5pm yesterday. The SW wind died then, the temperature started
dropping, and suddenly we could not see either of the two, although the
other shorebirds were still present.
Today's shorebirds included 5 huge Greater Yellowlegs, 4 Sanderling, the
Pectoral Sandpiper, and the 3 Black-bellied Plovers. A lot of passerine
movement including 4 Horned Larks on the algae, Snow Buntings with at least
one Lapland Longspur, and a Rusty Blackbird.
Bring gloves.

Directions:
Exit Hwy.401 at Division Street, Exit 474, and drive south to the harbour.
Drive round the north edge of the harbour for free parking on the west side,
and walk out on the west headland.
