No, this isn't a retraction of the Red-necked Phalarope reported yesterday in Cobourg harbour! At 8.30 am a juv. Red Phalarope flew in to the harbour from the west and is feeding with the Purple Sandpiper, a Dunlin, a Pectoral Sandpiper and 3 Black-bellied Plovers on the algae in the SW corner of the harbour. The wind is fierce from the SW and there have been stinging hail showers. This is a different bird from yesterday, bulkier, with far more plain gray on the back and pinkish legs. The bill is shorter, broader at the base with the tiniest hint of pale at the very base. The Little Gull was not seen this morning but may well still be among the Boneys.
Directions: Exit Hwy.401 at Division Street, Exit 474, and drive south to the harbour. Drive round the north edge of the harbour for free parking on the west side, and walk out on the west headland.
