Weather:
Some low cloud and fog burned off by mid morning to produce a nice sunny
day. Some cloud cover remained as a background but dispersed when the
breeze picked up in late morning. Winds were light east-northeast early
making their way around to the southeast and picking up by midday.
Raptor Observations:
After a slow beginning, there was a good movement of birds once the
overhead conditions improved much like the day before. The biggest push of
Broad-wings was as the skies brightened but they continued to move in small
groups throughout the day. The flight overall moved at a steady pace during
the day with several distinct flight lines noted: to the north as you would
expect on southeast winds, overhead and also just to the south and east of
the count area.
Non-raptor Observations:
Today marked the beginning of the Blue Jay migration with a good bit of
activity seen mostly in the morning when hundreds, perhaps 1500 to 2000 in
all, moved through. The first White-throated Sparrows were noted in the
park today and a flyover Pine Siskin was heard.
