In the enormous mixed foraging flocks of warblers and chickadees this morning at Kortright, I managed to pick out 16 species of warblers. In no particular order, they are:
American Redstart Common Yellowthroat Northern Waterthrush Black-Throated Green Warbler Black-Throated Blue Warbler Black-and-White Warbler Blackburnian Warbler Magnolia Warbler Chestnut-Sided Warbler Yellow Warbler Nashville Warbler Cape May Warbler Wilson's Warbler Canada Warbler Bay-Breasted Warbler Blackpoll Warbler Redstarts and Black-Throated Greens were most abundant today. The most productive way of finding warblers is to look for the noisy chickadees, as nearly all of the warblers associate with them. All of the ones found today (with the exception of the Yellowthroats and some Waterthrush) were with chickadees. Directions: The Kortright Centre is located three kilometers west of Highway 400 and one kilometer south of Major Mackenzie Drive at 9550 Pine Valley Drive in Woodbridge.
