In addition to recent sightings of Black-legged Kittiwakes in Ottawa, there have been kittiwakes at Quebec City, Montreal (Beauharnois), and several on Lake Champlain, including an adult. Michel Gosselin tells me that there were strong northeast winds in the St. Lawrence estuary in the last few days, with many Northern Gannets and a Northern Fulmar east of Quebec City. Yesterday 2 Northern Gannets were well upriver at Trois-Rivieres between Quebec City and Montreal. Conditions are ideal for seabirds to funnel up the St. Lawrence River into Lake Ontario. Van Wagners Beach in Hamilton could be the place next time the wind is from the east.
