This morning at the Holland Landing lagoons there were two breeding plumaged Short-billed Dowitchers (hendersoni) in the company of approx. 40 molting adult Lesser Yellowlegs, 50 Least Sandpipers, two Semipalmated Sandpipers, at least a dozen Spotties, and as many Killdeer. These lagoons are just north of Newmarket in the town of Holland Landing, about 30 minutes north of Toronto. Take Yonge St. north through town, then turn east on Cedar St. and drive the short distance to its end. For those considering a visit, please note the following developments, however: there is now a great deal of poison ivy around the unofficial access path on the north side and there is a new No Trespassing sign on the main gate. I have phoned the region to ask about a pass system regarding entry but have yet to hear back.
