The report of a couple of White-winged Crossbills near Stratford last
week may have seemed an anomaly but we had a single juvenile/female
plumaged bird in our yard briefly this morning. The bird was calling
constantly as it came into the yard, alighted briefly in our blue
spruce for a few seconds but took off before we could even get our
binoculars on it. This is the first time we have had a crossbill in
   our area in mid summer.
Our place is located in north central Elgin County about 20 km
   southeast of London.
