Highlights of reports received May 22 through May 29 from the Niagara Frontier Region include LITTLE BLUE HERON, SUMMER TANAGER, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, WHIMBREL, RED KNOT, YELLOW-B. FLYCATCHER and ACADIAN FLYCATCHER.

At Dunkirk Harbor, May 24, an exceptional LITTLE BLUE HERON near the Main Street beach, and later at the Conservation Club. There have been no recent reports.

May 27 at Amherst State Park, another exceptional report - a passing SUMMER TANAGER, briefly observed by the spruce grove north of the tennis club. Singing but not seen, near the same spruce grove, a very rare in spring CONNECTICUT WARBLER was heard for several hours.

Other warbler reports this week - in the Lake Ontario Plains Towns of Wilson and Newfane, 20 species including ORANGE-CR. WARBLER and CAPE MAY WARBLER, plus BLUE-HEADED VIREO. In the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area and Iroquois Refuge, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, CERULEAN WARBLER, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, MOURNING WARBLER and HOODED WARBLER. At Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, LA. WATERTHRUSH still singing, and PINE WARBLERS continue at Saint Columbans in the Chautauqua County Town of Sheridan. Along with the warblers, several reports of PHILADELPHIA VIREOS and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS.

Warbler migration has stretched through most of May, and now the late May shorebirds are passing through the region. Along the Ontario shore of Lake Erie, 12 shorebird species on May 25 were highlighted by 2 WHIMBRELS and 3 RED KNOTS at Long Beach Conservation Area in Wainfleet. Other shorebirds at Long Beach, Rock Point Provincial Park and the nearby Mosaic property - SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, KILLDEER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, RUDDY TURNSTONE, SANDERLING, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, DUNLIN and DOWITCHER SPECIES. Also at Rock Point, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO and 3 ORCHARD ORIOLES, and at Mosaic, a RUDDY DUCK.

In the Genesee County Town of Alexander, at the Gilhooley Road swamp, seven shorebird species included SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 110 SEMIPALM. SANDPIPERS, several WHITE-R. SANDPIPERS and 2 DUNLIN, plus HOODED MERGANSER with young.

Migrant YELLOW-B. FLYCATCHERS at several locations this week. Scarce, breeding ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS at Chestnut Ridge Park, private property in the Town of Holland, and in Chautauqua County at Wheelers Gulf, on Fredonia-Stockton Road in the Town of Pomfret. And, widespread reports of WILLOW FLYCATCHERS.

Other reports - GREAT EGRETS from Batavia to the Niagara River. At Saint Columbans, 6 sub-adult BALD EAGLES. Three reports of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS in North Buffalo areas. RED- HEADED WDPKR. in Olcott at Route 18 and West Creek Road. A total of 500 CEDAR WAXWINGS in the Lake Ontario Plains. At the Tillman Wildlife Management Area in Clarence, GRAY- CHEEKED THRUSH and 3 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS. And, a PINE SISKIN at a nursery in the Town of Boston.
