There have been at least two reports of Turkey Vultures roosting in
woodlots in southern Ontario on Ontbirds this week. Anne-Marie LaPointe
reported 4 (though she has had up to 30) in a woodlot on the edge of
Warwick on the 17th and, yesterday, Bruce and Bea reported 28 in a pine
forest at Wheatley. Both roosting areas have been used for at least 5
years. Scientifically, the roosting behaviour of Turkey Vultures is not
well known. The Turkey Vulture Society
(http://vulturesociety.homestead.com/), a non-profit scientific
corporation, dedicated to the study and dissemination of information on
TVs, requests the public to report TV roosts
(http://vulturesociety.homestead.com/ReportRoost.html). Ontario birders
can make a significant contribution to the study of the roosting
behaviour of this bird via this web site. I urge you to report roosting
Turkey Vultures to the above web site and, if you can, notify me
separately.

A poor day in the field is better than a good day in the office !
