Winter continues to bless??? us in the Hamilton Study Area. All is quiet
here but there are some new birds to report this week in Hamilton.

Of interest to winter listers was a Red-shouldered Hawk seen today at Stoney
Creek Ballpark in Stoney Creek. At the Desjardins Canal today 3 Pied-billed
Grebes and a Horned Grebe were seen at the west end of the canal. A female
Green-winged Teal and 2 American Wigeon were seen today at LaSalle Park. Out
on the bay a total of 9 Bald Eagles were viewed on the ice today and at the
lift bridge 2 Peregrine Falcons are still being seen. Another good winter
bird was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker which was seen near Irma Court in
Ancaster this week. Down in the south end of the HSA amongst flocks of Snow
Buntings on Irish Line a single Lapland Longspur was seen at the side of the
road last Sunday.

In the odds & sods, Pine Siskins are being reported in the Brantford area at
feeders. A mixed flock of Bohemian and Cedar Waxwings were seen on the rail
trail south of Glen Morris. Bald Eagles were reported along the Grand River
as well as over Hwy 403 and Hwy 6. A Barred Owl has been seen sporadically
in the Halton County Forest. This bird appears to have a very wide range
with no specific location reliable. A large flock of 40 -50 Wild Turkey
were seen today near 8th Road East and Green Mountain in Stoney Creek and 7
more were seen on the east slope of the upper Ottawa Street Landfill.

That's the news for the week. Hopefully the weather mixes things up a bit,
we seem to have lost our winter finches!
Please report your sightings, my reports are getting far too short!

Good birding,
