Today, Lise and I travelled to Newboro; we saw a lone Trumpeter Swan, resting on the ice in the narrows. It was keeping company with maybe a dozen Mallards. On highway 42 leading into the Narrows, we saw a Northern Goshawk watching over a meadow of mixed trees and overgrown hay. Entering Smiths Falls on highway 43 and the town's limit, there was a mature Bald Eagle sitting by the waters. The Red-tailed Hawks are becoming more numerous, counting seven from Kempville into Ottawa. We saw two sitting side by side on the corner of Roger Stevens and the 416. A little farther down Roger Stevens towards Moodie Drive, there was a Coopers Hawk, hunting from a tree next to the road, this was our second Coopers Hawk of the day, the first one was right in the down of Kempville. Last but not least, a mix of different types of gulls were moving over Trail Road, off of Moodie Drive, I was able to capture some great shots of Iceland Gulls. Cheers, Brian Directions: To Newboro, Take the 416 South from Ottawa, turn off at Kempville on Highway 43, take the 43 to Smiths Falls, travelling through Merrickville, turn onto the 15 in Smiths Falls heading south, maybe an half-hour on the15, turn right onto the 42, very shortly turn right onto Narrows Lock Road, approx 2km, which will take you to the narrows.
