Hello Ont Birders,

Our group had a great day birding Wolfe Island today. There was a noticeable change in the raptor numbers and diversity from our visit yesterday. There was still a good number of Rough-legged Hawks, both light and dark morph, scattered around the west end of the island with the highest concentration along 4th Line Road between Baseline and Reed's Bay Roads. 14 Red-tailed Hawks was a significant increase over yesterday when just 3 were found. Conversely, Rough-legged Hawk numbers were down with just 30 today compared to 45 yesterday. 6 Snowy Owls were found again, a concentration of a dozen Short-eared Owls was found along Highway 96 between 2nd and 3rd Line Roads and a Barred Owl. 6 Northern Shrikes, 2 Cooper's Hawks and 6 American Kestrels were located today. Our highlight was an impressive congregation of 16 Bald Eagles on the ice off the south shore of the island (10 adult and 6 immature). I'd like to thank Paul Lagasi, Ian Clark & David Tyrer for their help locating some species.

A NOTE about WOLFE ISLAND for PHOTOGRAPHERS and BIRDERS: Remember, the entire island is private property, except for the public roads. Do not trespass on private property. Please be considerate of Wolfe Island residents. When parking along roads, do not block the flow of traffic or block laneways.

                               Good birding, Bruce
