Hello,

Lise and I visited the Northern Mockingbird, located behind Parkside Street,
next to the railway track. The bird was right where it was described to be.
It was over-seeing bird feeders in one of the back yards and would present
itself every time a group of Northern Cardinals made an attempt to feed. It
did not seem to have an issue with any of the other birds. Also, there was a
small flock of Pine Grosbeaks in the woods across the train track. On our
way back out, going through the field, we saw a Northern Shrike being chase
from the area by a small number of Blue Jays; it was good enough to pose for
some photos before leaving the area.

This must be the winter for grey birds in Ottawa with the Northern Shrikes,
Northern Mockingbirds, Townsend's Solitaire and a Gray Catbird.

Caution must be given when on the train track, this track is active and a
train did pass while we were there.

Cheers,

Brian Young

Directions in part courtesy of Paul Matthews: Traveling south on Merivale
Road, turn right (west) on Viewmount Drive. Continue to Parkside Crescent
and turn left. Park on the road near 26 Parkside, across from where the
trail starts. Take the path straight across the field. Towards the south end
it forks: take the right-hand fork.

Then, a few meters further on, go left along the fence line till you find
the gap on your right (south) that leads up onto the tracks. The bird was
right there, on the residential side of the tracks.
