Hello Fellow Birders / Nature Photographers, Once again the Shirley's Bay area proved to be very active, on January 10th, however I must admit that the most active (entertaining) area continues to be in the area of Lois / Hilda and Shirley Blvd where "Hilda" the tame Ruffed Grouse can be found.
If anyone is going to go out to visit this bird and feel they might not have a long enough lens, have no worries, I am considering using my macro lens for my next visit! And if you can't find him or her just get someone to drive by and he / she will probably come running out! On another note a Robin was also spotted by a number of us in this same area. Up at the Hilda feeders a number of the regular birds were still present, however for some reason people kept telling me that the birds I was waiting for ended up showing up when I left the area including the Pileated on two occasions. There was no report of the Merlin or Hawks while I was around. I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to a number of Birders and Photographers who I have met at the feeding station as well as at other popular spots and for your tips on identifying the birds and for offering assistance to me. I have one request, and that is I have taken my van off the road for the rest of the winter and will be taking the accessible bus to the station. If it is quite cold out and some of you show up I might be approaching to see if I might take a few minutes to warm up in your vehicle. Thanks all and good birding / good photography!
