For those looking to start off their 2008 year list (or finish out their 2007 list, like I was) these three birds were still present and were easily found today. 1. Townsend's Solitaire - was feeding in a tall juniper bush at the north corner of the house at #7 Millbrook Crescent when I arrived at 10:40 am. After about a minute it flew across the road and perched in a deciduous tree for a few seconds before dropping in behind this house, possibly to feed in what look like ornamental crab apple trees behind it. Directions courtesy Paul Matthews: Millbrook is off Deer Park Rd which in turn is off Meadowlands (north side), just west of the Fisher intersection. 2. Tufted Titmouse - seen twice around 11:45 am, at both sets of feeders behind #103 Manitou Street in Forest Park east of Embrun. The bird was associating with a few chickadees and would only fed briefly before disappearing into the trees behind and beside the house. Directions courtesy Chris Lewis: Take Hwy 417 east to exit #79, go south (right) on County Rd. #5 to the intersection of County Rd. #3 and Route 500 West (the sign indicates that Embrun is to the right). Go east (left) on Rte. 500 West, which is actually still County Rd. #3, and look for Manitou St. - the 4th street on your right. #103 Manitou is near the end of the street. Both sets of feeders are visible from the road between #103 and #107. 3. Hoary Redpoll - at the Hilda Avenue feeders in a flock of about 50 Common Redpolls at 12:45 pm. Directions courtesy of NeilyWorld Birding: From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 134 (Moodie Drive). If travelling west, the 0.4 km offramp dumps you right or north onto Moodie. If driving east, a 0.3 km offramp brings you to Moodie Drive, where you will turn left or north onto it and in 0.5 km join the westbound offramp traffic. Both groups will now follow Moodie Drive north 1.3 km from here to Carling Avenue. Turn left or northwest on Carling and go 2.2 km to Rifle (Range) Road. Turn right or north onto Rifle Road and travel 1.7 km to Lois Avenue. Turn right again almost immediately onto Hilda.
