My fourth trip in almost as many days proved successful this morning. A large
flock of between 110 and 115 birds were well seen by a few looking west from
Victoria between Stone Road and College Street. This location seems to be the
most reliable place to catch these elusive birds

Also seen were a few Pine Grosbeaks from behind the Canadian Tire store north
of Stone Rd. and west of Gordon St. Also there was a Northern Shrike.

DIRECTIONS for the WAXWINGS:

>From the 401, take Highway 6 north to Guelph. Turn right onto College Avenue.
> Go through the University of Guelph campus, past the stadium and towards
>Victoria Road. Just before Victoria Road (and just before College Avenue
>ends) turn right into The Arboretum (note: this is our new entrance and
>doesn't have a new sign
yet). Today and other days, the Waxwings were ( and have been seen ) from
Victoria Rd. between Stone Rd. and College St. looking westerly towards the
Arboretum Building.

DIRECTIONS for the PINE GROSBEAKS & NORTHERN SHRIKE:

Take the 401 to Hwy 6 north to Stone Rd. Go west to the fire hall and the new
Canadian Tire Store. There is a road between these two buildings. Go north into
a parking area after twisting slightly to the west. You will find a long row of
Crab-apple trees full of fruit within this area. More specific directions to
these trees is difficult. . About 40 to 50 Pine Grosbeaks were feasting on the
berries in these trees.
