Dear intrepid birders you have to forgive me for not posting here for several days. . .My life has been summarily hijacked by a couple of beautiful rare warblers. . .and a viciously dangerous winter storm. Our first organized CBC was held on Sunday December 16th. Despite the early freezing rain which severely curtailed our previously promising owling ; we were hit by driving wind and snow. Yet I consider the day a resounding success. As compiler of the count I offer my greatest appreciation to all my birders. . You are a wonderful mix and I look forward to fun and adventure in the following years.I will post more details later. Yesterday I failed to locate our little female black-throated gray. She was not in any of her usual spots and I could not spare more than a few hours to try and relocate her. I hope and believe she has gone further into the pp to afford her more protection and opportunity to find food. Please stay tuned if you are further afield and planning to travel just for this bird. We will post as soon as possible if we spot her again. I would urge any visiting birders to perhaps spend some time in the excellent habitat in and around Port Burwell. . .There is always a possibility of a good or excellent bird. My northern mockingbird is still an early morning feature here at Monarch Landing. He is most often on the feeder tray beside the largest blue spruce in front of the building. (a mile east of Port Burwell on the lake Rd.) Eastern bluebirds are fairly common throughout our area. While in search of our warbler yesterday afternoon I also spotted a single beautiful immature Iceland gull in with the ring-bills . More excellent birding can also be found just minutes down the lake at Port Rowan and Long Point. Enough for now. Good luck and good birding.
