Dear Ontbirders, Today at 10:55 I saw what I can only call an adult male "Oregon" subspecies Dark-eyed Junco at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. Dark slate to black hood strongly contrasting with chestnut back, light rufous wash on flanks. See plate 48 picture j in Rising/Beadle's "A Guide to the Indentification and Natural History of the Sparrows of the United States and Canada." The bird was associating with "Slate-coloured" juncos, foraging in the compost pile and around the ravine near the intepretive centre building. Directions to the Fletcher Wildlife Garden are at: http://www.ofnc.ca/fletcher/location.php Good birding, Bev McBride Ottawa foxsparrow01 #at# hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Have fun while connecting on Messenger!
