The winds were moderate west-southwest early becoming strong and gusty by late morning. Raptor Observations: While a great improvement over recent days, the flight overall was fairly modest given the conditions and time frame. Vultures moved fairly steadily from about the second hour of the count onward but in medium-sized discontinuous lines rather than any sort of large push. Still it was not a bad showing overall. Two pairs of the local Bald Eagles made countless meanderings over the count area during the middle portions of the day to the appreciation of the photographers present at the watch. Also highlighting the day was our third Golden Eagle of the season, although this individual was not as cooperative as the previous two, giving us only a brief view before being blown north by the wind. A little pulse of Kestrels in the afternoon was a nice surprise with the thirty-some recorded a nice total at this juncture in the season. Non-raptor Observations: Tree Swallows again moved in numbers early in the day. I have been seeing small groups of migrating Crows for a week or more now but today there were several groups today that held a hundred or more birds with perhaps four to five hundred in all noted. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
