Observation start time: 07:30:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8.5 hours

Official Counter: Calvin Brennan

Observers: Bruce Roberts, Charlene Brennan, Terry Angevine

Visitors:
Linda Roberts
Jim Maki

Weather:
Today saw a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day with light to moderate
southeast winds.

Raptor Observations:
After a bit of a slow start there was a sharp pick of birds in the third
hour of the count dominated by TVs but highlighted by the first Northern
Goshawk of the season, a juvenile. Vultures continued to move heavily
thereafter with much of the movement to the north but still close enough to
be enjoyed. There was a bit of a slow down in the TV activity in the mid
afternoon followed by the usual pulse of birds late in the day. Buteos
continue to increase with today’s totals for Red-tails and Red-shoulders
the highest so far this fall. Interestingly we are still getting a few
Broad-wings each day it seems. The handful of Bald Eagles tallied today put
us just a few birds away from a new single season record for the species.

Non-raptor Observations:
Both species of Kinglets are numerous in the park now and along with the
plentiful Yellow-rumped Warblers, there are quite a few Orange-crowned
Warblers being reported as well. Pine Siskins continue to migrate by in
small flocks.
