Hi all,
Whilst lounging on the beach - #3 Parking area in the park this
afternoon, I noticed a large shorebird land ~200 M north of me. I had my
'bins (hoping for 'early' jaegers) and saw it was a Whimbrel being harrassed
a bit by the local band of Ring-billed Gulls. I climbed the stairs to get my
video camera and saw a serious beach walker striding towards the bird, which
soon took off. Luckily it did not fly too far south and landed ~150M south
of me, so I was able to get close enough for a short video clip. This is my
first Lake Huron Whimbrel - I'm not sure how unusual they are here in fall
migration.
I saw one on Lake Erie ~3 weeks ago at Long Point tip, whilst
'lighthouse sitting' with Blake Mann, Heather Campbell and Diane Salter.
                                                                  Cheers!
Maris
