If you can do point counts and you live in or around Ottawa, the Ottawa
Breeding Bird Count needs your help.  We’re hoping to get enough volunteers
completely cover our study area and currently we’re only ½ way there.

Adopting a point count route will take only a few hours of your time.  In
fact, most routes are short enough that they could be done before going to
work in the morning (finished before 8:00 am).

WHY WOULD I GO BIRDING IN THE CITY?
The chances of you adding to your life list during an OBBC survey are pretty
slim.  However, think of it more as birding for a good cause.  With your
help, we can build a long-term, publicly available database that measures
the effects of urban development and tracks the trends in Ottawa’s bird
populations.

HOW DO I ADOPT A ROUTE?
Pick a route.  Then send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

WHERE ARE THE ROUTES?
There are maps at the following links that show which routes you can choose
from (pick a route number and tell us which one you’re interested in, or
tell us what part of town you’d like to work in and we’ll pick one for you).

West Ottawa:  www.glel.carleton.ca/ottawabirds/POINTCOUNT/WestPCMap.pdf
Central Ottawa: www.glel.carleton.ca/ottawabirds/POINTCOUNT/CentralPCMap.pdf

East Ottawa: www.glel.carleton.ca/ottawabirds/POINTCOUNT/EastPCMap.pdf

WHEN ARE THE SURVEYS DONE?
Any day, before July 7.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS MUST I HAVE?
You must be able to confidently identify the 70 most common species in this
area by sight and sound (you can see a list of the 70 species on the PC
field sheet www.glel.carleton.ca/ottawabirds/POINTCOUNT/PCFieldSheet.pdf)
