Good morning,
There was a PURPLE SANDPIPER this morning at 9:00 a.m. at Sandbanks
Provincial Park, in company with 4 semipalmated sandpipers. The bird was
found by Presqui'le Park Naturalist David Bree who saw the bird at 9:00 a.m.
in a section of Sandbanks known as West Point. The shoreline here is rocky
limestone shelves. Spring records of this species are rare in Ontario.
Directions: Take County Road 12 from Bloomfield, or County Roads 10 & 11
from Picton, to Sandbanks to the C.R. 12 four-way stop at the entrance to
the West Lake Sector of the park. Follow Lakeshore Lodge Road and park at
the road barrier, then walk the remaining short distance to the tip of West
Point and shoreline.
