Still lots of great birds in the Park today.

On Chinquapin Oak Trail are reports of 15 species of warbler including
Cape May.

In Tilden's Woods there were Cerulean, Canada, Northern Waterthrush and a
report of a Louisiana Waterthrush.

At the tip this morning, a Mourning, Bay-breasted, Kentucky, female
Golden-winged, and Wilson's Warbler among others wre reported. Just north
of the tip tram loop, a Grey phase Eastern Screech-Owl offered excellent
views.

A Lesser Black-backed Gull flew along the West Beach.

On Woodland Nature Trail, a Merlin perched for all to see, and 2 Sandhill
Cranes flew over. Warblers included Mourning and Golden-winged among
others. Interesting as well was the coastal variant, (purple) Common
Grackle.

Good Birding!

I visited the lagoons this morning and observed at least 4 white morph
ROSS'S GEESE among the 1500 SNOW GEESE. There were 107 dark morph Snow Geese
among the flock. There may be more Ross's Geese as I was only able to
carefully check half the flock.

Also in the lagoons were 24 waterbird species including 1 CANVASBACK, dozens
of RUDDY DUCKS and 9 REDHEADS. Also of note were 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPE and
calling VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA and PIED-BILLED GREBE..

All the birds were seen or heard from the birding tower at the south end of
the lagoons.

DIRECTIONS:

>From the town of Alfred go east on Highway 17, then turn
south (right) on Peat Moss Road and drive for 2 km. The lagoons are on your
left (east side of road). The birds are best observed from the viewing
tower. Any attempt to enter the lagoons will cause the geese to take flight
and leave.

Access to the viewing tower is free and no permit is needed.

Entrance to the lagoons is prohibited unless in the possession of a valid
ANNUAL PERMIT. The permit can be purchased on week days from the Alfred town
office just beside the fire station. Arrangements can also be made to
receive the permit by fax by contacting Richard Villeneuve at (613)
679-2292.
