Hi all,

Overnight rain prompted me to visit Toronto Islands this morning. Unfortunately it cleared a little too soon but there where large numbers of grounded migrants to be found in the Hanlan's area. Best bird was a confiding LeConte's Sparrow flushed from the south end of the airfield fence - a noted hotspot. It gave great views as it sat within the chain-link fence and would have been very photogenic had I bothered to bring my camera!

The whole area was carpeted with birds, mostly Swainson's Thrushes, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets and White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows. With them were 18 warbler species, including 6 Northern Parula and about 10 Cape May. A Black-billed Cuckoo and a White-eyed Vireo were nice Island birds.

The Islands can be reached via the ferry at the foot of Bay Street.

Cheers

Dave Beadle
