This morning at our Old Cut field station, I observed a Yellow-throated Warbler in the woods by the parking lot across from the station. I watched it for a few moments before it flew off to the west. A search for an hour of the area up and down Old Cut Blvd. failed to turn up any more sightings of the bird. However, it was later refound by Stu Mackenzie around noon in the Old Cut woods proper. A second bird was seen this morning at one of the remote field stations. They also reported 3 different Kentucky Warblers (two of which were banded). The Old Cut woods themselves were hopping with migrants including several Hooded Warblers as well as a Cerulean, which was captured and banded. At least one of the Yellow-headed Blackbirds was heard and seen this morning. Shorebirds here at the BSC headquarters pond on Front St. in Port Rowan included both yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover and Killdeer. IMPORTANT REQUEST With our wetland drawn down for shorebirds, the site has become popular with visiting birders. Most are parking along the cemetery road and viewing the pond from the west side. The cemetery road is clearly signed as being for cemetery use only and it is not the best location for viewing in the morning. After several complaints from the neighbours and the County office about birders blocking the road and parking on private property, we are asking all birders to please park in the BSC parking lot (the big building on the east side of the pond) and view the wetland from our observation deck. We have lots of parking and room on the deck, it's free, there are public washrooms (open weekdays),it affords a better view of the wetland and, most importantly, you will help us maintain good relations with our neighbours. That's very important to us and ultimately allows us to provide the habitat for shorebirds and viewing opportunities for birders. Thanks for helping out with this. Please pass the word around to anyone you think might need to know. Ron Ridout Property Manager Bird Studies Canada P.O. Box 160, Port Rowan. ON N0E 1M0 519-586-3531 Ext 204 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
