March 13, an exceptional report of a female GROSBEAK, reported as a ROSE-BR. GROSBEAK, in a yard in the Erie County Town of Boston. Hopefully, the bird will be seen again to confirm the identification.

In the Lake Ontario Plains, March 13, a reported ROSS'S GOOSE with 50 CANADA GEESE on Marshall Road in the Orleans County Town of Yates. Many arriving waterfowl species have been reported from the lake plains, Iroquois Refuge and Niagara River. Including, SNOW GOOSE, TUNDRA SWAN, AMERICAN WIGEON, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, RING-NECKED DUCK and HOODED MERGANSER.

First AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were reported March 4 near the Niagara Parkway in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and March 14 on Gilhooly Road in the Genesee County Town of Alexander. March 10 in the Lake Ontario Plains, likely recent arrivals - FIELD SPARROW and EASTERN MEADOWLARK on North Beebee Road in the Town of Wilson. KILLDEER have been widely reported, while RED-W. BLACKBIRDS and COMMON GRACKLES trickle and then flood the region.

GREAT BLUE HERONS have been claiming nests in the Motor Island heronry on the upper Niagara River since late February, when 61 herons were reported.

At the Hamburg Hawkwatch, TURKEY VULTURES lead in early March, followed by RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS. On March 13, 244 TURKEY VULTURES and 47 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, plus BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, COOPER'S HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, AMERICAN KESTREL and PEREGRINE FALCON. Visitors are always welcome at the daily watch, located in Lakeside Memorial Park, off Camp Road in Hamburg. Also, March 7, a MERLIN over Porter Road in the Town of Niagara.

Dunkirk Harbor is still loaded with wintering waterfowl, including CANVASBACK, REDHEAD, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and BLACK SCOTER, plus PIED-BILLED GREBE, HORNED GREBE and RED-NECKED GREBE. On Lake Ontario, RED-THROATED LOONS and RED-NECKED GREBES at several locations.
