About 11:30 this morning, an adult male Harlequin Duck was at the mouth of Ashbridges Bay, easily seen from the boat launch area. It swam east behind the sailing club, so I walked around to the tip, but was unable to find it again.

Other birds of interest were 5 Kumlien's Iceland Gulls including two first winter, one second winter, one third winter and one adult winter. Last week there were 13 Kumlien's Gulls and an adult Thayer's Gull on the ice off the boat launches. A good variety of ducks, including about 20 White-winged Scoters were feeding on zebra mussels as the ice melts and opens up more areas to feed. There was also a Horned Grebe there.

Directions: On the eastern side of Toronto coming from the west, take Lakeshore Boulevard East to Coxwell Avenue and turn right (south) at the Ashbridges Bay sign, then right again to the parking lot at the boat launch area.

Happy birding,

Jean Iron
