The Pied-billed Grebe was still at The Narrows on Big Rideau Lake this
afternoon (we first reported it Jan. 25). It and a male Hooded Merganser
stayed close together in the open water on the east side of the south bridge.

Directions from Smiths Falls: Hwy 15 south about 25 km, turn right at Hwy 42 to
Newboro and turn almost immediately right onto County Road 14 (this turn is
about 100 ft from Hwy 15 but can be easy to miss). Continue north on CR 14 to
the first bridge at the Narrows on Big Rideau Lake.

Hi all,
Following Donald Pye's directions I located these birds ~4:00 pm
to-day. 3 were just west of RR tracks - mostly on the roadway with 7
further west beyond the curve, mostly flying about and landing on corn
stubble on the north side of Hyndman Dr. Whenever I tried to get a scope
view they took off - there were also ~50 Horned Lark, ~80 Snow Bunting, 2
Lapland Longspur, some Dark-eyed Junco and Tree Sparrow for quite an
eclectic and active 'mixed flock' along this stretch. It was still quite
cold and windy to-day although the sun was shining brightly I'm pretty sure
they were Eastern Meadowlark and a treat to see.

Directions - Hyndman Dr. is 2 concessions south of Hwy #2 at Melbourne west
of Middlesex CR#9, between Mayfair Rd and Thames Rd.(CR #8).
