Ontbirds:
Earlier today, my wife and I spotted 10 or 11 Gray Partridge along
Colborne St. West, west of the Brantford Airport. The group were
200-300 meters south of the road opposite 1059 Colborne St. West (this
is a white house with blue trim).
To reach the site from Highway 403, drive south on Rest Acres road
from 403 until you come to the traffic light at the intersection with
Colborne St. W. (Highway No. 53). Turn left and travel east no more
than one half kilometer to house 1059. The birds were to the right.
They were about 25 meters east of a tree line bordering the field.
When we first saw them this morning they were spread out somewhat, but
later they were all huddled together in a tight circle, to keep warm I
suppose.
Denys Gardiner,
Brantford

Greetings Southerners,
I have had 5 American Tree Sparrows feeding beneath my feeders since early
Dec. but for a few days now only 2 are active and I fear for the others. The
wind-chill this morning was -45C.
There are hordes of Evening Grosbeaks but the Pine Grosbeaks still haven't
shown up at the feeders although hundreds were on the road this morning as I
took a 43 Km drive.
Gert Trudel
