Lake Ontario Park is more than 900 acres and will become a regional
destination on Toronto’s revitalized waterfront. Public input is
important to the planning and design of this project and we encourage
you to join us for a second public forum:

The preceding is the formal announcement from the Toronto
Waterfront Revitalization Corporation
Lake Ontario Park is an ambitious plan to create a "signature" park on
Toronto's waterfront, from Cherry Beach on the west to the Eastern
beaches, including the Leslie street spit and the Baselands. as
Ontbirders know, the Spit is an IBA, and The Spit and Baselands are
Toronto's premier birding locale.
The park design will be unveiled to the Public on January 17th.
Many of the design concepts are commendable, exciting, and worthy.
Unfortunately, the current design proposes an east-west canal
bisecting the Baselands, to allow small watercraft to shortcut through
the Baselands. This channel will completely alter the Baselands and
will substantially reduce the natural area. To the north of the canal,
soccer fields and active recreation zones are planned.
Come to the meeting to see the plans for yourself, support the good
ideas, and protest the poor concepts.
many thanks
