Yesterday while birding near Mitchell's Bay, came across two very white
Snowy Owls near Mitchell's Bay, south of Wallaceburg, northwest of Chatham.
They were out in the fields on either side of Mallard Line, sitting on the
ground or on posts. Both were likely males due to striking white colour.
Likely one of these was the snowy seen on the St. Clair CBC recently. Bring
your scope.

If you go soon, watch for the many swans that are in the area. You may find
a large grouping down in a field. Please let me know at my email if you do
find a large group of swans in any field in the area of the owls.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Have a look out in Mitchell's Bay, and have a visit to
ST. Clair Waterfowl area while down there as well. Lots of waterfowl there
to view. Several Bald Eagles were also noted along the water and marshes.
There is a large group of geese down on Bradley Line, just south of the
management area. There are several snow geese and possibly cackling geese
within the group.

Directions.

Since highway 40 (ST. Clair Rd) runs between Wallaceburg and Chatham, will
give directions according to this road.

>From Chatham, north on 40 to St. Andrew's Line, about 5th line out ( 2nd
from Walmart) Go west, left, to Bear Line Rd, and then north on Bear Line,
to Mallard, the 5th left. After the intersection with Winter Line, be
watching for the owls on either side of the road, within the next half km.
Last seen yesterday, after lunch. One was on the north side, out past a
"cattle farm" with loads of hay and some large barns. It was sitting on
posts. The other on the south side was just out standing it its field.

>From Wallaceburg south on 40 to Electric Line, go south, right to Bear Line,
and then left, to Mallard. (not having come from that direction, hopefully
Electric is a good crossover to Bear and besides, have you ever been through
a town called Electric?) Then directions are as above.

St. Clair Wildlife Management Area, is off Town Line Rd. Two roads south of
Mallard, see above, along Winter Line, is Rivard. Go south on Rivard and it
turns left into Town Line. Go down Town Line, to Balmoral, first rd, on
left, and the entrance to the waterfowl area is there, just over a small
bridge. Try not to disturb the waterfowl. If on the road into the management
area, stay in your vehicle if possible. And if on Balmoral, don't make
yourself too visible to the waterfowl out in the marsh. Bradley Line is just
the next road south on Town Line. The geese are in fields on the north side,
from the corner all the way down to Bradley Farms, and could be congregated
any time of day, but usually by pm. Again use your car as a blind unless the
geese are out across the fields.
