Yesterday in the Holland Marsh south of Bradford there was a flock of approx. 200 Snow Buntings moving about in the fields north of Strawberry Lane. Unfortunately, the Snowy Owl seen there twice in November continues to be a no-show (i.e. I guess it's long gone - maybe even back-tracking northward due to the mild temps). Also observed in the same area was a male Northern Harrier, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, and a Cooper's Hawk. In west Bradford, a juvenile Northern Shrike has spent the last two days hunting on the east side of 10th Sdrd., just south of the arena and north of Hwy. 88. Another shrike was observed about 2 kms west of Hwy. 27 on Line 6. I struck out in search of a Carolina Wren at DiGrassi Point and three Red-bellied Woodpeckers north of Bradford (seen by Peter Wukasch during yesterday's York-Simcoe Naturalists' CBC), but took consolation in finding another flock of Snow Buntings (80+) near the east end of Line 13 and another Cooper's Hawk where Line 10 crosses the railway tracks on the northern edge of Scanlon Creek CA.
