Hi All,

A Northern Shrike was found (by myself and Matt Oswald) actively hunting on a
property just outside Mitchell....southwest of town. It was clearly visible
from the roadway as it sat on fence posts on the west side of the property.

This porperty is interesting in that it hasn't been cultivated by all
appearances in at least a couple of decades. As a result it is perfect habitat
for the shrike...including tall grasses and many thorny shrubs. I'm hopeful
that this shrike will remain in the area for a while..

Happy holidays,

Dave J Brown

Directions to the property:

Take highway #23 south from Mitchell and take Line 32 west (this is the first
road to the right). Continue past the first intersection and then watch for
the property on the north side of the road (right)...it's between the emergency
markers 6501 and 6539A.
