Winds were generally very light and varied from west-northwest to east-northeast. Raptor Observations: There was a very large push of Northern Harriers early in the day, in numbers that would be impressive any time of the season but particularly so in mid November. The first couple of hours of the count brought groups of 5,6,7 at a time but included an instance when 26 were in the sky at once, the largest single group in view numbering 17 individuals. The largest single hour tally was 80 birds. Many adults were involved with this movement including lots of adult males and one group of 5 harriers contained a Short-eared Owl, the first recorded on the count in a couple of years. Other highlights of the day included the best movement of Rough-legged Hawks thus far for the fall, recorded as 11 light-morph and 2 dark-morph individuals. Two adult dark-morph Red-tailed Hawks were also noted.
