Ontbirders
While strolling along the Fingers Trail at Presqu'ile this afternoon, I found a female Black-backed Woodpecker. This trail is not signed but starts at a wooden gate approximately .9km along the main road from the park's admission booth. The gate, on the east side, leads to a trail through the panne and then into the mixed forest. About 80m along into the forest, a sawed-off log to the right has a piece of flagging tape on it. To the right of this is an open grove containing the dead trees the woodpecker foraged on. Presqu'ile Provincial Park is located south of Brighton (HW 401 exit 509). As there are no ducks nearby, the Fingers Trail is open every day.
