I have been informed by Bev Kingdon and Harry Lumsden that the Trumpeter
Swan Reintroduction Program is winding down. Cygnets are no longer being
released.
Harry and Bev are asking that all and any reports of Trumpeter Swans be
sent to them (not Ontbirds). Please include number of birds, date, time,
location and band numbers if visible. Include colour of both the tag and
number, tag type (wing, collar, etc).
Harry Lumsden's email address is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bev Kingdon's email address is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The information we supply the program will go a long way in helping to
keep track of the general well-being of the Trumpeter population.

Hello Ontbirders
By braving the drizzle this morning, we were rewarded with a few
interesting birds.
12 Brant were feeding with the canadas on the lawn of Andrew Hayden
Park, often fairly close to Carling Avenue and the bicycle paths. One
bird later separated from the group. But, remained feeding in the area.

After an unproductive hike along the trail off Kerwin Road, at around
noon, upon returning to our vehicles at the entrance to the trail, we
saw a beautiful male Black-backed Woodpecker. It flew in from the
opposite side of the road, worked a tree for less than a minute, then
flew southeast deep into the woods.
There were no detectable finch flights this morning.

Observers: Cherise Charron, Claude Radley, Jim McCoy
Weather:
Heavy fog covered Essex County today with a concentration at Holiday Beach
which did not clear until early afternoon. Winds were light from the South
and Southwest.
Raptor Observations:
A light migration of raptors today as would be expected due to the weather.
Thank you to our spotters.
Non-raptor Observations:
Species observed today included four foraging Eastern Bluebirds, two
Eastern Phoebes, flocks of blackbirds which included Rusty Blackbirds, a
single male Yellow-bellied Woodpecker and twenty-two Tundra Swans. The
weather is still mild enough for the frog population as we saw both
Bullfrogs and Leopard Frogs around the edge of the trout pond.
Thank you to bander Carl Pascoe who showed us two banded female Rusty
Blackbirds.
