Birded the Long Sault Parkway this morning between 7:30-8:30. Spotted a
RED-NECKED GREBE between Hoople and Dickinson Islands, on the north side of
the parkway - fairly close. Thought I saw a pair of red-necked grebes last
weekend in the same location, but they were too far out in the bay to
confirm. This one was alone.
Other birds along the parkway included: 1000+ CANADIAN GEESE, 100 GADWALL,
an AMERICAN WIGEON, 50+/- COMMON MERGANSERS, 25 MALLARDS. Within the last
week I have also seen a few BUFFLEHEAD and HOODED MERGANSERS, but none this
morning.
DIRECTIONS: The Long Sault Parkway is located south of Highway 2 between
Long Sault and Ingelside. Entrances to the Parkway are off of Hwy 2 directly
in Long Sault (exit 778 off of the 401) and just east of Ingleside. There
are no entrance fees this time of year.
Good birding,
Wendy Heuvel.
