Most who did spend a little time on the tower were "local" residents who spent a couple of hours watching. Thanks to all who helped spot the hawks today...watch the wind reports and come back on a day with northerly winds and you won't be disappointed. Weather: High winds and overcast skies will best describe the day. Wind speeds ranged from 10 km/h all the way up to 22 km/h, with the average being in the high teens. Winds were consistantly from the WNW. Skies were overcast all day with the exception of a few sunny times late in the count day. Raptor Observations: Eleven species were tallied today. Though numbers were small, varitey was great. The falcons and accipiters made top spot today with more than one of each species tallied. The falcon show contained some great looks at American Kestrels and a low Peregrine, while the accipiters would not be outdone...with a low Northern Goshawk directly over the tower. Sharpies continue to put up good numbers and battled the headwinds all day. A total of 430 raptors were counted between 7am and 2pm today. Non-raptor Observations: Some significant movement of Blue Jays began this morning, but seemed to fizzle as the day went on. In total less than 2000 Jays were counted. American Gold Finch continue to move in small numbers. Other birds of note, in no particular order today were: 4 Caspian Terns, 9 Chimney Swifts, 4 Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, Swallows, and a couple of Monarch Butterflies. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/
