Hi weekend birders: since nobody has mentioned the Willet today, I would like to confirm that the adult non-breeding eastern subspecies of the Willet is still on the shallows/mud flats of Rattray marsh as of 12:30 pm on Friday Sept.8. For those who need Willet for Toronto/Hamilton geographical lists, it is worth cheking it out. As well, the mud flats may attract other 'goodies' to be aware. Shorebirds observed: **** Willet 1 ** White-rumped Sandpiper 2 Solitary Sandpiper 1 (at least) Semipalmated Sandpiper 3 Least Sandpiper 2 Pectoral Sandpiper 6 Spotted Sandpiper 2 Lesser Yellow-legs 5 Greater Yellow-legs 4 Semipalmated Plovers 2 Killdeer..... several Herons: **Great Egrets 2 ( at least, one with an orange tag above the tibia) Great Blue Herons 20+ Black-crowned Night-Herons 1 Ducks & Swans Wood Ducks, some 20 individuals of various plumages Green-winged Teal, several Gadwall, several Black Duck & Mallard Duck, several Hooded Merganser 2 Common Merganser 3 **Goldeneye, one individual Juvenile Raptors: Turkey Vultures 3 Red-tailed Hawk 1 adult and 1 very light juvenile Northern Harrier 2 Falcon sp. Turn right (south) on Bexhill Road (just past the 5th or 6th stop light east of Southdown). Park at the bottom of the street near a laneway access to Rathway . At the bottom of the hill follow the boardwalk east( LEFT) to the lake then walk the shore west to the outlet.

Skies were clear, if a bit hazy, with a bit of cumulous cloud building up during the afternoon. Winds were light southwest throughout the day, increasing somewhat in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: The flight was very much similar to yesterday with Ospreys making a decent showing but with little else moving. Non-raptor Observations: As stagnate as the hawk flight was today, other birds moved in very good numbers most notably Purple Martins and Barn Swallows with lesser numbers of Chimney Swifts seen. An Olive-sided Flycatcher was seen briefly on its annual perch in a snag to the west of the count area at the boat launch. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/
