Hi all,
Around noon this Sunday was a group of five (5) RED-NECKED PHALAROPES in
cell 3 at Blenheim Sewage lagoons (just like Exeter yesterday!). There was
also a juv. Black Tern flying about this cell. The usual species of
shorebirds were in cell 5--mostly dowitchers.
Back at Rondeau Provincial Park this morning, warblers were in big numbers
with at least 22 species inc. Golden-winged. Most of these were seen on
south point trail (end of Lakeshore Rd. in the park). There was also a very
large number of Red-eyed Vireos.
Yesterday at Erieau during the storm in the afternoon a WILLET stopped
briefly on the docks about 15:30h. There were hundreds of terns, including
well over 100 Caspian. Large numbers of Short-billed Dowitchers were around
also.
Lagoon Directions: Exit 401 at #90 (Communications Rd.) and head into
Blenheim. At the main stoplight turn right (west) onto Rd. 3. Travel about
1.5 km and turn right (north) onto Lagoon Rd. at the carwash, and continue
north about 1 km to gate. You must have an annual permit to enter.
Available at the Municipal Service Centre, 35 Talbot St. in Blenheim,
during business hours, fax (519) 676-0244.
